Michigan Laws Regarding Firearms Purchases beginning Feb. 13
Purchasing a Firearm in Michigan
There are several new laws and amendments that took effect in Michigan once the calendar turned to February 13th, 2024. Many of the bills signed into law by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are scheduled to take effect 91 days after the Legislature adjourned for the 2023 season. Because lawmakers adjourned early on Nov. 14, 2023, many of these new laws will took effect on Feb. 13, 2024, unless otherwise stated. Background checks related to firearm purchases will now expand to all firearm purchases, from handguns to long guns.
